genetic improvement of African Catfish has been done in Indonesia using back-cross strategy. Main Center of Freshwater Aquaculture Development, a government agency under Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, Indonesia, located at Sukabumi, conducting research for genetic improvement at 2000-2004.
Backcross strategy carried out using second generation of introduced catfish (female) crossed to sixth generation (male). The strategy completed straight sortation, e.g only 1-2% candidate brooder choose as final population. The result has tested in field production and disseminated to catfish fisherfolk.
